Yageo OTP series over temperature protection fusible resistors, the best solution to protect equipment

Yageo recently launched the OTP series, an over temperature protection fusible resistor, which is a new type of protective component for over temperature & over current protection. The OTP series is mainly used in industries that involve in high speed computing or high temperatureoltage processing such as power, home appliances, lighting, charging and industrial equipment, and that therefore require more high-end resistors for safety protection. When an overcurrent occurs, the OTP series fusible resistors will fuse and open the circuit to prevent electrical damage.

OTP embeds thermal-link inside resistors and form a series structure of resistors and thermal-links. When the resistor's temperature or external temperature exceeds the fuse temperature, the thermal-links will fuse to break the circuit. This design solves the issue of standard wirewound fusible resistors that still remain high temperature under minor malfunction or over current conditions.

The current most common protection model comprises two components. The NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) and FUSE to achieve thermal anti-surge. With the OTP series fusible resistor, one single component is able to achieve a more comprehensive protection mechanism, including: FUSE, thermal link, short circuit protection, cold & thermal surge protection, voltage dividing & bucking.
